does anyone know anything about a "fishing" game that i *think* came from japan? it's like, u use 'nets' that r made using tissue/paper n try to catch a fish from a pool
there's gonna be a carnival n im supposed to be in charge of this game, but i dont know half about it like, what kind of fish should i use so they wont die that fast or should i use thin rice paper or normal tissue etc.
can someone enlighten me??? onegaiiii.......m(_)m

I think she's referring to game where people try to scoop fish using a "net" that is usually held in festivals (You see this often in animes). Those who actually catch the fish (normally goldfish... They're pretty much submissive ) gets to keep them. The net is... How to say... It's as big as a handheld magnifying glass, it has a similar shape and instead of a piece of glass, you have some sort of paper pulled flat as a platform to scoop up the fish. It's supposed to break if you dont scoop carefully OR soak it too long. Hopefully you get what I mean. -------------------------------------------------------- EDIT Had nothing to do so went out to find a pic. goldfish scooping equipmentExampleCan't find anything bout making the net (also known as paper paddle or "poi") but made a side discovery -~> the net measures 3 inches in diameter. So unless someone can find the details, I guess it'll be trial and error style for you.

Gomenasai~... Couldnt find anything about making it... they only mentioned about using paper to make it, not specifying what paper.
Maybe you could look at the picture I gave above and find something that looks similar? remember to try it out first or else you might get some really bad effects. (mainly, huge losses if the paper is too strong OR a tarnished reputation if no one can scoop anything due to a soft paper) But I would bet it aint toilet paper. It disintegrates too easily. And remember, not everyone can scoop goldfish so.... testing the paper is gonna be very subjective.
Oh yeah, it is said to be able to stay in the water for about 3 minutes (maximum time I guess... the winner of a competition used the paddle to scoop 51[/u] goldfish in 3 minutes) And the goldfish is supposed to be about 1 inch long.
The name of the game -~> "Kingyo sukui" (Japanese) @ "Goldfish scooping" (for the english minded people out there)

Try following the picture I gave... Those are all the things that you'll need. Here's another picture of the goldfish. GoldfishIMHO you shouldnt use other fish. (I'm guessing the Japanese use goldfish for a reason...) If you do decide to use other fish, I advise you to ask the dealer if it struggles really hard. If it does, the paper wont hold anything long enough.

it shud be oil paper, as the net seems transparent, the only few type of paper that is actually transparent while it goes into water are too few and expensive, oil paper being the cheapest and easiest to obtain. paper knowledge from art school. or you can try rice paper, best substitute to it and cheap enuff.

It's called kingyo sukui (金魚救い) IIRC I believe they use some kind of wax paper
every year at bon odori, I help out my language school's stall at the Bon Odori Carinival. The stall next to ours does the kingyo sukui every year. Naturally, we help out by selling aquarium equipment so that people who managed to catch the fishies will have a place to put them when they get home.
