This series getting more interesting..... it's all about space war and strategies... well... don't expect for space fighter... only battle between battleship and battleship...for now...

It's about a group of student couldn't accepted their home world surrender to Kingdom without a fight... so they choose to become independent ship (kingdom officially call them pirate) and wage war with kingdom....

Latest Eps : 4

A battle between amaterasu(pirate) with aboukir(kingdom stealth ship)....
the one who shot first will win the battle.

Pretty standard space tactics really, nothing extrodinary. It's like a submarine battle, all done at long range and detection is the key to victory.

Looks like a lightweight version of the Crest/Battleflag of the Stars series.

Minus points: All girl crew. Harem galore.

This series is based on a novel and the reason why females is primary crew of ships is because they consume less consumables in operational scope.

Male need about 2500-3000 calories a day whereas females is 1800-2000 calories in general. Thus it translates to less consumption of food in precious cargo space on board of ship. Less consumption level also means longer operational length and better tactical options.

Which makes sense in a way.

I tend to favour novel based anime adaptation, it tend to be more serious and sensible to me.

Even if that's the case, male crewmembers would still be needed in the areas of damage control due to their superior monotasking and peak strength.

Unless, of course, the ship is so complicated that human intervention in damage control scenarios is pointless.

I only seen the first ep up till now. From what I've observed the ship seems like an armoured cruiser with short-range weaponry.  There's no flight wing from what I've seen thus far. It's not that pretty of a design either.

This Anime falls more under the 'Hardcore Sci-Fi' classification.

Much like Ryvius or Planet ES, this Anime tries to be more 'realistic' about space battles. Thus you won't find any cool fight scenes or Gundams here (at least Ryvius had a giant remote controled Mecha..).

For fans fo Hardcore Sci-Fi (ie: ME) this is an excellent serries. Do not be put off by the seemingly majority female cast as thus far - there has been NO fan service. (yet - though it could be argued that short skirts are themselves fan service) So this serries is deffinitely NOT a Harem type. There are romances going on of course such as between Sanri and Takai the resident bishi... but mostly the show has a serrious tone with more focus on the politics and plots that go on in the universe.

There are some discrepancies in the show... it was stated somewhere that the Battleship has a crew of 30... this may in reference only to the officers since I cannot imagine a ship being run with a crew of only 30... in addition to that there are more than 30 characters in the background. Other instances include the presence of the 'traitor' aboard the ship who notified the AoHN(Alliance of Henrietta Nations) of the Amaterasu's lack of stealth detection capability yet did not inform them of the new method they were using to detect stealth ships. (the 'traitor' in reference here is to the one betraying the Amaterasu and not the 'official traitor' Intel Officer Yuki Shimay who is traitor to the Kibi government.) Though it's possible that this is another sub-plot that will be revealead later.

The main operational crews are mostly female by request of 'Ginganet' (Galactic Network: the organisation funding the exploits of the starship Amaterasu) who are led by our lead protagonist Kouzuki Shinon. (Shinon being the de facto leader as opposed to the de jure leader Cisca)

Shinon herself is a good metaphor for the show, intelligent, beautifull and possesed of multi-dimensional thinking capabilities. Yet, uncertain about the future and seeming to want a relationship (with the viewers) without being able to understand the love that is needed.

Final Words: The show is fast paced, and requires a lot of attention in order for viewers to catch events as they occur. No long drawn out recap episodes here! While this show may not make it into the anals of the great Sci-Fi animes like Legend of Galactic Heroes or Macross... I think it is still well deserving on the shelves of any Sci-Fi fan.

short skirts....nyum.....

Yo DC, it is good to see your powerful analytical skills is still resonating strong in dissecting anime(s) compared to most people I know in anime watching. So, are you still in those shoujou anime marathon yet?:?

Have you seen Beyond the Clouds?

As for the ships, I think it is highly automated. It is trend in naval combat operations in C3 I to have proggression of lower number of operating crews. Maybe in SS timeline, it has achived optimum automation effieciency thus disregarding the need for labour intensive in running the military ships?

Just a speculation.

Kyoto Animation – If there’s anime deity, then KyoAni’s its prophet. Absolutely the darling of the anime world now, for good reasons like Fumoffu, The 2nd raid, AIR TV,The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi and Kanon 2006. With KyoAni, it’s not anime, it’s art[/i].
