Got 2 free tickets for Japan Film Festival so went to watch this ham tan
chew yan at midvalley yesterday.

Feeling was kind of weird since i've never watch it on a big screen
before. The original ultraman & Return of Ultraman were the only series
that i have watched during childhood. None of the recent new series
captured my attention. Surprisingly the movie was not the typical
childish ultraman series you see on tv & i didn't regret choosing this
movie over others available.

Plus:

- relatively good storyline compared to tv series
- lots of scenes on F-15 fighters
- the japs use F-15 Eagles to shoot the monster, not those weird, plastic
& toy-like air plane from their special forces
- monster design for the final battle, got wings wan...
- ultraman VS monster aerial dogfight
- & most importantly, the 'classic' Cross Arms' & shoot beam sure-kill
technique was back!

Minus:

- don't like the new ultraman design (doesn't look like 'ham tan')
- average quality CGI

The hall was only half-filled but overall I enjoyed the movie.
Ticket price only RM5 so if you like ham tan chew yan during your
childhood days, don't miss it.

Saw the movie last year. Here's what I thought.
- That ultraman next had the worst, cheap-looking body armour ever.
- Next risked himself saving one child, but didn't care less about others. He either stomped them unnoticed or let the monster fired them in the buildings.
- Like his brothers, Next enjoyed smacking down monsters in the middle of the city rather than somewhere else with less humans.
- Ultraman saving humans, pfft.
- The monster fought and reacted very fast in the air, but ultimately slow on the ground.
- Despite the military knowing they had a monster, they still kept him in the base underneath the crowded civilan area.
- Only one or two F-15s against those giants.  The military were really strict with their budget regardless the armageddon.
- Next's final kill was truly disappointing. The beast just turned to what, ashes?
- lousy rock soundtrack.

To sum up, the movie was no better than tv series.
