those HD media player 400++, why not just buy a cheap computer around that price and play all kind of format? we call it "Home teather PC (HTPC)" you house now mostly use LCD tv, which comes with VGA,DVI,HDMI ports so not a problem to connect to pc

mkv is good. when you got LCD with 720p or 1080i, that where this format comes in. Blue ray 1080i for 1 movie is 7gb minimum, anyone want download? lol..

Where do you get a PC that can do all that for RM400? Please enlighten us...

If you got a old casing + 250 w psu, ram definely have extra. which is i think most ppl got extra old pc  when they make a new one.

Biostar mobo = RM 200 (built in Nvidia 6100) , sound card
Amd Dual core = RM 200

Eh... I heard that its not good to connect pc -> tv... Spoils the graphics card faster or something like that.

Prefer to watch on tv cause no need to start up the pc (unlike OTHERS who leave it on all day), have a larger screen (no, I don't have LCD tv like some OTHER rich people), and have a better choice of seats instead of only in front of the pc. Wink

Only disadvantage to using TV is that it's on much lower res. 640x500 for PAL tv sets.

Hmm... I think my DVD player can use a higher resolution, but it cannot handle the so called "HD formats" (It actually displays a message saying HD format not supported), which I guess has a resolution of 1024 or higher.
