Erm, it is rather weird that no one started a topic about this yet, from what I found on google, it was released in Japan at late January. Anyone knows if it is fansubbed? Or released in English? And anyone actually watched it?

Ok, I watched the movie and I must say, it is truly disappointing. I know they   can hardly squeeze a 13 episodes serie into a 2 hour film, yet, they wanna make the move like a talk show that bores me to death. Here's a short review, might contain spoilers so if you don't like them, don't read it.

Most of the time, the characters talk very very slowly in the movie, and then there are even some bullet time scenes that is unecessary, annoying as hell. Let's talk about the casts, Chise doesn't look weak anymore when she is in human form, and whenever she turns mecha, it's cheese all over again. The actress tries to act like her, but she just arent convincing enough. As for the guy, he doesn't wear spects anymore and in no way he resembes Shuji in the anime, besides, he can't act! He doesn't call Chise "aho"(idiot) anymore, so as Tetsu. And after all, they are too old to act school kids. >.<

Now let's talk about the plots, like I said the movie is slow paced, so how are they going to put in all the good things of the anime? Here's what they did. They took the good event, modify, and throw in here and there. Here's what's happening: the movie goes "slow... EVENT! slow again... EVENT! Slow....". Almost all character developments were killed, and when things go emotional, and people crying, I just won't feel sad for them. =_= Even the love story between Shuji and Chise is not convincing at all.

The most obvious changes of the plot would be the ending, omg that is horrible and totally unecessary, and make no sense. The anime's ending is much better. >.<

I watched the Chinese fansub that is quite good, too bad the movie isn't. Damn, Chise hardly shows up in mecha form. Sad

Against better judgement, I just watched this. Fansubbing did by some unknown individuals.

Well, yeah, you can't expect anything much from the movie version of a character based series. Character relations are vague due top the lack of development. If you didn't watch the series, you might be wondering why they both fall in love and all.

That aside, the casting wasn't good. Shuuji looks a bit too old/serious. Preferred the spectacled, slightly blur guy from the anime. And Chiise looks a bit... stocky. Maybe it's the uniform that makes her look big. Or it could be cause this is the real world where you can't get the ideal person for the job.

I do like the CG though. Destruction looks so nice and fluid. However Chiise in mech/cyborg form doesnt look nice...

And yes, the ending was horrible. STICK WITH THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT GUYS!

Overall, I think it's because I watched the anime that I can at least tolerate the movie. After all, my memory just recalls the parts they omitted in the movie. However, if you haven't watched the anime, you might find the movie falling short on most aspects.
