City Boy (me-lah!)... meets Kampung Boy!

Yes!!! I had met up with my idol Lat, earlier this evening during the launch of the "11th French-Language Week in Malaysia" at the National Art Gallery. This is a joint project of 19 embassies of French-speaking countries. Interestingly, they chose to launch this project with a comic art exhibition of 3 countries: France, Switzerland & Canada.

Also, on 5 April (4-6pm) at the National Art Gallery's auditorium, there will be a "Concert of Drawings".

The concept of the "Concert of Drawings", which was launched during the International Comics Festival in Angouleme in January 2005, is to enable the public to watch a comic strip being sketched in public. In this creation process, the cartoonists will be accompanied by a band on stage. This very innovative event therefore represents a perfect illustration of a successful marriage between two different artistic fields.

Admission is free!!! The concert performers? Our very own Lat, King Ban Hui and Philippe Dupuy from France.

Ok, enough of free advertisement! Cheesy

I actually met Lat to pass him the mock-up of the "Melting Pot" anthology for his review and foreword. The "Melting Pot" anthology is a colobaration of 14 cartoonists from the IACAScW yahoo group, featuring 11 incredible stories. This anthology will be launched (and sold!) at the Cedko Cartoonist Conference. What's interesting about this anthology? Well for starters, it's self-published!

Want to learn how to self-publish? Only at the Cedko Cartoonist Conference! Sign up now via our online registration form!

Cedko Cartoonist Conference's early bird promotion extended until 14/4/2006!

Thanks to our friends at gempakstarz.com and The Star newspaper, we will be receiving some conference coverage in a two main publications sometime this week:

1) Our friends at gempakstarz.com had kindly given us a great write-up on the conference in their latest issue of Gempak #154! Get a copy now!

2) We should be receiving some coverage in The Star newspaper's Metro section this coming Thursday/Friday and the Otaku Zone section this coming Sunday.

With those excellent news coverages, we are expecting an avalance of sign-ups soon. To show our appreciation to the Gempak and The Star newspaper readers (& to everyone else), we are happy to announce an extention of our early bird special to 14 April 2006!

To thank those who had signed up earlier, we would like to say a big thank you (it has helped ease our cash flow!) and we would like to show our appreciation by giving you (at the conference) a complimentary copy of " Shadows", Cedko's first ever publication worth RM29.90!

For those who haven't signed up yet, well... opportunity is knocking twice, take advantage of our extended early bird special which ends next Friday (14/4/2006).

Dear shock,

Wow! Thanks a googlezillion for the referrals. Will take me months to finish all of them Smiley

If you were to recommend me only ONE title which is similiar to Full Metal Alchemist i.e fantastic storyline, great character development and loads of kick-ass action, what title would you recommend?

Also, was there a second series of the Full Metal Alchemist?

Finally, I'm really puzzled and wish that everyone reading this post and 'think' they are not cartoonists, please do give me some feedback for this question of mine:

"As anime/manga/cartoon lovers, isn't there an urge to create/draw some cartoons of your own?"

I use the word 'think' because Cedko's philosophy is "Everyone IS a cartoonist!". Check out this link![/url]

See Ya!

Dear friends and colleagues of cartooning,

Greetings from Cedko once again! I'm here this early morning to solve an extremely interesting mystery. If you thought that the Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot, the Bermuda Triangle or even "why the cost of a bowl of soup mee costs extra 50 cents when the price of petrol only went up 30 cents" are big mysteries...you're in for a real surprise.

Imagine this:

1) To date (12/4/2006 1.35am), Cedko's postings of the conference has a viewing total (from 4 Malaysian well-known cartoonist forums) of 850 views.
2) Assuming that each person reads a Cedko post once (there are 8 main Cedko postings), we'll divide the total number of 850 by a multiplier of 8 = 106 persons
3) Out of these 106, only 3 persons has signed up for the conference
4) 3/106 = only 3%!!!

This a big mystery, yes? This is a job for Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson!

My dear Watson, this is even more puzzling than "The Final Problem (1893)" & "The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902)" put together! Perhaps we need to send out a survey to the members of the forums! Help Sherlock Holmes & Dr.Watson solve the mystery by taking the survey!

For those who are interested but haven't signed up yet, do it soon and take advantage of our extended early bird special which ends this Friday! (14/4/2006).

Sign up now via our online registration form! See ya all at the Cedko Cartoonist Conference!

"As anime/manga/cartoon lovers, isn't there an urge to create/draw some cartoons of your own?"

Here's my answer to the question (This only applies to me)

-~> I do, but being realistic, I know my limitations.

The most likely medium of expressing my fantasies would be in text form, not graphic.
I'm saying I'm good at language, but not good in the arts.

As for your second question, IMO I think you're a bit too expecting. Currently, anime/manga is more popular among young adults/teens, as in those who are still students or haven't established themselves financially. The entrance fee is a relatively big amount to ask from these people, and furthermore it falls into the "non-necessities" category in people's budget.

dear friends and colleagues of cartooning,

hello there! hope all is well with all of you Smiley

thank you so much for all your feedback! you know, i'm extremely puzzled why people think the cedko cartoonist conference is expensive. it is not.

in 1997, i attended a cartoonist workshop - cost rm300+
in 2004, i attended a cartoonist symposium - cost rm450! mind you, i'm not rich and i had to borrow money for the symposium!

the cedko cartoonist conference? only rm150! and with a group discount, it costs only rm125 per person! with the cost of petrol and other goods (including hotel rates!) rising, trust me... next year's conference will only get more expensive.

let's pause for a while and put the rm150 into perpective:
1) if you spend rm5 at the mamak everyday, it's only a month at the mamak
2) if you spend rm30 for a nice t-shirt, that's only 5 pieces of clothing
3) if you go to the movie outing (+dinner) with a partner, that's maybe 5 movie outings
4) if you eat kfc, that's only 10 snack plate sets
5) and the list goes on and on

i apologize if i'm wrong but i truly believe people who think the conference is expensive have not yet realized the value.  our conference programme shares with people the trends (copyright, syndication) and latest concepts (self-publishing) and technologies (blogging). the conference also introduces (for the first time) an exhibition and networking session where you can display your talent and maybe, just maybe... someone will find your style attractive and invite you to work on a project with them!

the conference is designed to empower all of us cartoonists in our passion and vocation!

some of the people who signed up appreciate the value and some are even surprised at the price -so cheap, compared to the price of other non-cartoonist conferences out there as a simple 3-4 hour workshop costs no less than rm300! some of the people who signed up come as far away as ipoh and even a little further, penang! for outstation people, the conference fee + travelling costs and accomodation = rm400+, now that's expensive! and yet they still come Smiley. we, who stay in kl are considered very lucky.

with the reasons given above, this conference is not expensive at all. knowledge is power and malaysia is moving into the k-economy. i sincerely believe that the knowledge, networking and fun which we are sharing at the conference is worth at least rm150, if not more.

thank you taking the time to listen to my ramblings. please do take some time to think about what i said and if you think it makes sense, you still have two days to sign up for the conference at rm150. sign up now via our online registration form!

if not, then let us agree to disagree Smiley

yours sincerely,
cedkogan

Dear friends and colleagues of cartooning,

Greetings from Cedko once again! Today we have a record sign up of 15 participants for Cedko Cartoonist Conference and we are well on our way to achieving our target! It will be an excellent conference!!!

Why such a big number of sign ups? For the simple reason as Malaysians, we sometimes do things at the last minute (more exciting mah!) and that today is the last day for the early bird special!

For those who are interested but haven't signed up yet, you have less than eight hours to enjoy the extended early bird special which ends this Friday, 14/4/2006 at 12 midnight!.

Sign up now via our online registration form! See ya all at the Cedko Cartoonist Conference!
