Well, it's a very colourful movie I must admit.
While the pacing could have been better, I am not so sanctimonious as to brush the movie off as "boring." It is, after a fashion, typical eastern epic love story.
The props, costumes and cg fx look too bright and cartoony, seeming to suggest some budgetary issues. Or perhaps it was a matter of style. Either way, once you realise that this is supposed to be some sort of fairy tale, the visuals do not become much of an issue.
The fight scenes were good when they had proper (non-cgfx) battles. Fan kung-fu FTW!
Since the ending has already been spoiled in a MAJOR NEWSPAPER, I don't feel any restriction in commenting about the movie's conclusion:
Instead of ending it at the courtyard there and then, making it a double tragedy (triple, or quaduple, perhaps), they pulled a stupid Superman-like time-travel stunt to undo all the sadness and suffering that the protagonists' actions have cause. Such a cheap cop-out.

And why didn't the goddess show up at the end to claim victory over her wager with the ex-general?
