in low yat they have sell that *ahem*  cd
and it should complete with the tutorial on
how to use the painter's tools.
It should have 2 cd's. One is the painter program and the other

I have Corel Painter 9 and I dont know how to use it either.
I just wanna learn the basics on how to CG a drawing...
BTW, which one is easier to use for CG-ing a drawing? Photoshop or Painter?

what kind of graphic layout you want your
drawings to look like???

If it is a 2D image i think using only photoshop would be easier.
Ok the big difference with photoshop and painter are obviously
the brush pallate.
As you can see photoshop only have a few toolbar for coloring
for example

But if you use painter for example u want to use crayon.
Just by picking a crayon you could have so many types of crayon like
below

u have to try both to know which one suits you best.
Sometime you could have the same effect of a painter in a photoshop
and vice versa.
if you dont believe me you can go this link
http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?s=a4fa2ad3cf18c4df4630a979f29ec584&f=133

these guys are the best artist!! by clicking on which ever picture
it will show what kind of media they are using.
Mostly are using Photoshop and painter.

if u r really wanna do something really 3D, use a 3D modelling program and then render the model. of course, it take a lot of time, imagination, patience and sometimes, ability to solve problems and maths. i personally go for blender. its suits 3d rendering and its FREE. but if u have more resources and would like to try 3d animation, give 3ds max a try. i use 3ds max 6 to render images for mechwarrior and gundams. make the model and pose them as u like. but referring to paint and photoshop, i go for photoshop. make use of the filters and pen tool. they are powerful enuff for me.
