Author JK Rowling will kill off a "big character" in her next Harry Potter book - and she's hinted it might be the boy wizard himself.

Rowling replied, "Yes, sorry. A big character," but insists fans will have to wait until the sequel's release next year to find out who.

Book-makers William Hill will be taking bets on who Rowling might kill - the favorites include Harry Potter, his friends Ron and Hermione, headmaster Dumbledore and Dobbie the elf.

i have one question regarding the 'quotes' you put in, Alec... have you read the Half Blood Prince? if you do, you'll find that one of the names in the quotes (that might be killed by rowling) should not be there...

well... thing is, here's the spoiler, BIG BIG spoiler from HALF BLOOD PRINCE so please don't read if you seriously don't want to know...

it is impossible to bet on dumbledore because he is already dead, well actually, got killed in the 6th book--Half Blood Prince so it's definitely not him that's gonna get killed (again?) in the new book... right?

Sry I didn't read the book. The Itallic I put there from random site, when I tried to find out the final book title but failed. =x Wah spoilers... luckly I didnt read them hehe...

ah ic ic... perhaps give a try on the books, they are good ^^ and gives you a better understanding of the story. for example, in the 3rd movie there was this Marauder's Map ... saying something like Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs etc proudly presents the Marauder's Map. i was surprised that they didn't tell the viewers that these 4 names--those who created the Marauder's map are actually Lupin, James (Potter), Peter Pettigrew and Sirius as they used to be best friends in Hogwarts during their schooling years.

one more things, in Goblet of Fire, Barty Crouch was killed by his son because the fake Mad eye Moody (Barty Crouch Junior) confiscated Harry's Marauder Map. He saw his father's name appear on the map in Hogwarts and therefore went and killed him. otherwise it would be rather difficult for him to do so...
