cyan>> darn, took me almost 2 hours to do it. I know it shouldn't be that long but... =__= I couldn't decide which pic to use and I have to find one that has all the crew in it. Once done, I noticed that it was kinda short, and I wanted to add some 'phrases' to it so there goes the hunt for something suitable bla bla bla and on and forth. jason>> now that's interesting, Alexander Graham Bell why you of everyone else? LOL!!! How 'hot' can a girl in school uniform look?! FGOTD>> would be a drinking session next Friday. Since I'm 'forced' to organize then I'll coerce everyone to go. Those who did not attend - I won't let them off the hook easily!!! Another FGOTD that I look forward to would be tomorrow evening, I'm meeting up with several friends and we're going for mamak then Transformers!

Today is 40th Anniversary of Moon Landing by Apollo 11, greatest journey of mankind since Columbus in 1492 CE. (salutes the brave astronauts)

Finished 6 episodes of BBC Death of Yugoslavia. Now I understand how the country, once a proud nation who ousted Nazi Germany by themselves in 1944 can crumble into racial hatred and civil war. Ethnic cleansing and timidity of NATO is fully documented too, much to the shame of EU. It took a USA awesome air strikes and bombing to coerce the Serbs to negotiating table in Dayton, Ohio. Sometimes force is the only answer they understand. Diplomacy and economic sanctions will not do the job. It was a fraud! They filmed it somewhere in Arizona~ Next stop... Mars? President George Walker Bush already pledged a US manned mission to Mars by 2020 CE. It will cost at least 20 billion USD at current inflation rate adjustment. I am not bothered by these Moon Landing Fraud conspiracy theorist(s), because they are bunch of fuc-ktards and stupid sohais. They can go wallow in their own hog shit.

I'm not too sure but... Isn't mars a bit too far from earth? Gonna be a nightmare to bring along sufficient supplies for a round trip in such limited space...

We don't even have the lift capability to assemble a Mars-bound ship. All the knowledge and expertise to build the Saturn V rocket that brought Apollo crews to the moon have been lost. And those were the largest rockets ever built for space travel.

Considering we're no rocket scientists, all we can do is speculate. Technically, you could use existing technology to get to mars. Once you break free of earth's gravity you could drift all the way there. The question then would be, how long would you take to get there? And that leads to next problem - how much supplies do you need to bring?

Mars will orbiting closest to Earth for every 2 1/2 years cycle, so NASA scientist(s) will try launch a manned mission in that window of time. The crew will have to sustain themselves with 5 years worth of consumables and fuel to make it to Mars. The vehicle codenamed Aries will be old styled, heavily modified version from Saturn V rocket with updated propulsion and electronics. Some scientist propose an Orion propulsion system and ion engine for consideration of the mission. As for food, engineers were looking at recycling water and hydroponic farm for long solution.
US studied an idea to launch Mars expedition team from Moon base too. Russia and EU was proposing launching rocket using sea. Russia is too broke for any space missions and missing the genius touch of Sergei Koroylev, the man who launch Sputnik and Gagarin. EU was aggressive with their Ariane program and despite setback of Mars mission 2 years ago, they are still hoping to rival NASA in the race.
China is still busy preparing their first moon landing mission. India and Japan is still lagging behind.
Japan have their own rockets (H-1) but suffering numerous setbacks in their last launches. Now Japanese Space Agency were in negotiation with Republic of Kiribati (South Pacific) island to build 1st commercial space port named HOPE X. The negotiation has been on for 3 years. Prize X, after awarded to first commercial TAV (trans atmospheric vehicle) to Bill Rutan's Space Ship One in 2005 which will be adopted by Virgin Airlines for 1st commercial space flights in 4-6 years soon from 2009, now putting up 10 million USD for 1st commercial Moon trip as next challenge to civilian sector to come up with commercially viable method to travel to Moon. Virgin already planned to build space resort that can accommodate 4-6 space tourist in 2018- 2020. They will use Bill Rutan's design to bring up the tourist, dock with the space resort.

Mind you, the five years' supply does NOT account for the travel time both ways. (And in the course of their journey, the expedition's computers and robots will go crazy and kill all the living crew )

lol there's even a small article in appearing in today's Star newspaper. Apparently, NASA is considering making 1 way trips to objects far away to reduce the amount of supplies (in terms of propulsion) you bring along. Any takers?
