Kingdom of Heaven (2005)

I watched this movie twice and it entertained me twice. This is perhaps most balanced movie about the Crusades despite some historical inaccuracies and liberty taking.

1. Muslim Army of Sallah Udin relied more on superior technology and better strategy, not numbers as implied in the movie. The movie got the technology and strategy right, but not the numbers. Muslim Army never had number as their advantage in the Crusades.

2. Sybllia is much cunning than the movie. The movie story writing tried very hard to make her likable but closer inspection of real history reveal a much more darker character. I pretty doubtful that she will let go of all her powers to be with someone like they shown in the movie.

3. Sallah Udin reprimand one of his men about Muslims never won much battles until he came. The movie writer is obviously forgot about Abbuyid Dynasty in Spain and Caliph Abu Bakar's massive empire expansion. Hell, in 732 CE, Muslim Army is converging on Tours in Southern France before stopped by Charles Mattel after a desperate fight.

4. King Richard the Lionheart came pretty much latter in the picture.

But after all this visible historical flaws, the movie tried its best to be even handed in their treatment of Muslims and Christians which I approved greatly. Not surprisingly some of friends that I knew hated the movie because the protrayal of Christians as bunch of warmongering idiots since they are Christians but highly ignorant of history. Unfortunately, this is true, as many historical accounts shown that the Frankish Christians is the one who baying for war and they got it which led to their defeat in Battle of Hattin, 1187 CE.

But, after much consideration and the message of the movie which basically saying tolerance is the best, this is definitely a movie worth keeping.

I don't know but I think Black Hawk Down was his first movie or was it the 1st LoTR movie?Anyway I think Olando Broom can be the next action hero cos most of his movies r action movies unless he try romantic movies,he make great leading man.I will wait for DVD version of the movie  :wink:
