The largest Borders book store in the world has opened in Berjaya Times Square. (1st and 2nd floor)

Lots of manga there too.

Kino has a charisma that cant be replaced by other bookstores.

Unless this said bookstore has a cheaper price on the books i want, then HELL yes.

I think they are not talking bout Kino as the biggest book store, but another 1 in Time Square. Correct me if Im wrong.

I think I do not care if its big or not as long as it has books of my intrest and full of books instead of just a building. It will be a good book store for me.

I think they're using Kino as a hypothetical example to put into comparison with the Book Store in Time Square.

the pricing in Borders is bordering on upper class clientile. Books is sold at prices like 40-50 ringgit range on average. Needless to say, it is huge store.

On the other hand, if I order certain books from Borders online, I pay less than buying it from the store, even after adding shipping costs. Shocked

I went there recently and was disappointed.

Despite the huge area, I found the selection to be insipid compared to Kinokuniya. I went there to check out 3 types of books: Music scores, travel books and manga. Since most of you are more familiar with manga, I'll comment on the manga selection. One of the good points is the fact that  they don't wrap the manga. Hence I got to preview many manga before deciding if I wanted to buy or not. Now my main complaints. I found the pricing to be 20% higher than manga at MPH or Kinokuniya. Also, while it does have a decent selection, the number is nowhere near Kinokuniya's, I'd say it has about the same number as 1 Utama's MPH. Also, they didn't have the latest volumes that I was looking for. I only bought one manga at Borders (that was not available in Kinokuniya). Straight after this, I went straight to Kinokuniya's and bought 12 manga titles.
In summary, this will be a bookstore that I will check when it is out of stock in Kinokuniya but I think I'll continue most of my manga buying in Kinokuniya (and occasionally in MPH).

I think it would be hard even for Borders to match Kino WRT japanese/japan-related stuff (e.g., manga, japanese language books/mags etc). However, that is pretty much a niche market anyway.
However, being a global corp, Borders (like Kino) will obviously cater to a middle-to-upper class clientele. I look forward to finding some quality  (english language) stuff there the next time I visit KL Cheesy

While we're still on the subject of bookstores, I wish they'd reopen a Kino branch in Penang. There used to be one in Gama a few years back, but I guess they had to close it because of poor business...
Nowadays, with more and more Japanese expats and retirees living here perhaps the captive market would be large enough.... Tongue
