i'm having trouble installing certain games in my pc...!
each time i install , it pops up an error message saying:

data error & cyclic redundancy error!

do any1 of u know whats a cyclic redundancy error ar how 2 fix it?

CRC error happens when your data is somehow corrupt, or, at least your PC thinks it is corrupt.
there are a few likely causes here:
1. your CD is likely corrupt (especially true when you use *ahem* CD to install -no QC)
2. your Cd/DVD drive is going to KO.or the lens is getting dirty and becoming too sensitive
3. your optical drive's firmware is outdated and is incompatible with the media you inserted

dunno whether cleaning will help, but you can try.
if that doesn't work, perhaps try borrowing someone else's optical drive and installing your program using that one on your PC, or failing that, try installing it on someone else's system (if they'll let you) . if it works, then it is clearly a problem with your optical drive otherwise it could be that you bought a lemon of a disc

true. so far i had no prob with ori games, but p*****d ones, cause me a lot of troubles...some have safedisk issues (no matter how often i update my drives or how old the game is), some just have same prob as u. if ur disk surface is clean (no oil, fluids, dust, scratches,dents) then its due to the error occured in the copying process. scratches can be fixed with special solution, if they occur on the downwards surface. if the scratches are on the data surface, the chance to say bye-bye to the disk is high.

This is just a tip from me

If i have some badly scratched cds, i try to polish using my miracle biodegradable cd polisher (bought from pc fair). If still cannot, i burn them into images and mount using Daemon-Tools.

Use softwares such as Alcohol 120% or IsoBuster. They can skip bad sectors and with some luck, you may be able to play the game. However, i don't really recommend you skip the sectors, if able to install, there's a slight chance that the file is corrupted. So use it at your own risk! :twisted:

consider...now my money rugi ler.....!
i hv 1 cd rom & 1 dvd rom, both cannot install the game!
when i went 2 change d disc, she tell cannot chenge coz in her pc can install!!!

now, what u can do is...
1. try updating ur drivers. since she can install and u cannot, it could be a safe disk issue.
2. borrow someone else's optical drive.
3. if u r able to access the disk but cannot install it, u should able to read the troubleshooting guide. usually they have incompatability hardware list.

i have the same prob with my mechwarrior disk. luckily i have 2 optical drives. so prob solved. this prob usually occur if u r using cd/dvd-rw opt drives. u can also do as omega did, but i dont recommend skipping bad sectors. u can also use virtual drive software.

Another option is create a virtual drive and dump all the cd content into it and normally we can just play using the virtual drive. Some may require you to install. If error occur while copying, you just have to use the software i mentioned earlier to skip the sectors.

Tell you guys a secret. I often return the cds i bought after i burn them into images. First i scratch or dirtied the cd surface a little to make it unreadable and they will switch another one for me. Then i will use the excuse, error occur when installing. I keep on insisting they change until they have no more stock so i get to choose other cds. Please do not follow me, i am EVIL...

need chinese window to play chienese game? really? i thought u just need a language pack (dl from microsoft is free) and/or translator tool. pc have their own language...they only need to decode our command.

 :twisted:  :twisted: u play h-games as well? dun answer... but heres something i do when i cant install games in winxp. if u use 2 o/s, try using the other o/s. i personally prefer win 98 over winxp. its somewhat more reliable when u have the 'know why and know how'. when my winxp fails to install any application, i tried using win98. sometimes it work. im not a pro, so dun blame me if it doesnt work. still, i go for winxp for the looks and user friendliness...
